I’ve made a little video mapping browser extension! It’s simple. Aim your beamer at a rectangular surface and drag 4 corners to precisely map your video onto the target surface. But it’s also advanced. With it you can correct the perspective of the video source too. Just choose any region on the source video, which is distorted due to perspective but is supposed to be rectangular, and Mappertje will set it straight A bit like the Perspective Warp tool in Photoshop.

I went to Turku, Finland to be part of a show in New York City organised by the Czong Institute for Contemporary Art from South Korea. That’s right! I participated in Art Teleported, the art show and conference for nomadic artists, by teaming up with the Videokaffe collective. That’s a whole lot of name dropping, so let’s back up for a second. During Supermarket Art Fair I met the founder of Videokaffe: Sebastian Ziegler. Immediately there was a (goose bumps inducing) connection because of the way we both deal with the intersection of the virtual and physical world. It fuelled…

The Groningen based projectspace SIGN invited me to make new work and show it at the Supermarket Art Fair in Stockholm. A nice opportunity to see this highly digitised society. Research from the European Commission shows the Swedish people use the internet more than citizens from other countries. So, they are familiar with web pages. But I wanted to give them a new perspective on the seemingly familiar concept of web pages: web pages as three-dimensional buildings. We are used to viewing web pages from above. With Web Spaces I transforms the underlying architecture of web pages into three-dimensional spaces. The…

Web Spaces – Parallel City Dual-channel video projection
Site specific (no pun intended) work for the Re-structions exhibition at SIGN, Groningen.
In my interactive installation of Web Spaces, which was also exhibited during Re-structions, you visit one isolated Web Space at a time. These are mostly Web Spaces from internationally well known websites. The Web Space is surrounded by darkness. But as you may already know, the Web Spaces project is exploring the relation between the physical and digital world. At Re-structions I’ve taken the next step in blurring the line between these worlds. Instead of taking the most popular…

To the Work in Progress exhibition by Platform Minerva I’ve contributed Web Spaces, a series of 3D printed webpages in combination with Architectural Explorations, a dual-screen interactive installation. On the walls I’ve presented two additional projection works, of which one is also interactive.

My upcoming interactive light projection for the Museum Square in Drachten will feature motion detection and Google Ads! The concept is inspired by my previous work, AdSense Memory. Flying Ads Animation by Jip de Beer

I’ve been asked by Museum Dr8888 to make an interactive light installation for the Museumplein in Drachten. It will run every evening, for three months, starting mid October. Yesterday evening I started to experiment with what’s available: a 4x5m floor projection, a top mounted camera and a computer running AdVis 2.1 software. Unfortunately AdVis, which is a software to make interactive projections with, wouldn’t recognize the people walking in the projection area. Also, with AdVis you can only tweak some very simple, ready-made, interactive projections. So I don’t think I’m going to be using that… Jip de Beer trying out the projector for his upcoming light…
